Finally, I wanted to offer some validation on the whole concept of taking a spa day. Treating yourself to a spa day, one within your means, allows you to disengage from that which causes you stress. Any excuse to leave your smartphone in a locker and spend some time inside your own brain may bring benefit. It also allows your body some time to be purposefully and meaningfully sedentary.
Self-care is a trendy concept currently but only because we now have a name for what people have always done – put ourselves first. But much of the time, for women in particular, putting yourself first – even momentarily – is met with accusations of being selfish. Truthfully, taking care of herself makes her a better mother, a better wife, a better employee, a better woman. And a society of better women is a better society.
